Chantix and Drug
Interactions
One of the advantages of Chantix™ is the few
side effects and low rate of problems associated with drug
interactions. As with all medication, it is important to
consult a competent healthcare professional for the latest
advisories and personal evaluation; however, there have been
few reports of drug interactions with Chantix. The only drugs
that are reported as possible causing long-term effects and
interactions are:
-
Insulin and other diabetic treatments;
-
Coumadin and other Blood thinners
-
Asthma or Respiratory medications such as
Theophylline
There are many other
effects of smoking – and most of them are not good. While drug
interactions and side effects pose a small risk for negative
reactions; smoking has many risks that are proven. There are
effects on your skin, on your lungs, on your fertility and
above all, there are effects on your near and dear ones as
well. There have been many research studies clearly showing the
connection between lung cancer and cigarette smoking. In fact,
smoking affects negatively each cell in the body because it
basically starves the body of oxygen.
Skin – smoking, as mentioned earlier,
deprives the cells from oxygen and gradually kills the cells.
As a result, people who smoke have a very flaky skin which
wrinkles fast. Most smokers have a yellowish-grey pallor that
is also associated with the blood cutoff to the skin. The lips,
gums and the hands – particularly the nails - of a smoker would
gradually turn dark in color. This too is owed to the fact that
the blood circulation is reduced to these areas.
Lungs – this is one of the organs
that are directly affected by smoking. Every puff that you
inhale coats your lungs with nicotine and tar. Overtime the
lungs would loose its elasticity and expand less and less. At
the same time, the lung tissue deteriorates and often cancer
sets in. Reports show that more than two third of people
who suffer from lung cancer have been heavy smokers at some
point of time.
Heart – smoking affects the heart as
well. Since, the inhaled cigarette smoke starves the body of
oxygen and the vessels constrict as a result of which, the
heart starts pumping harder and harder. You tend to develop
high blood pressure and consequent heart attacks.
Fertility – many research studies
have been carried out on the relationship between the fertility
status of both men and women and smoking. Some of the reports
have clearly shown that there is an inversely proportionate
effect on the reproduction system as well. The ore you smoke,
the less fertile you become. So much so, that chain smokers can
even become impotent. The sperm count in heavy smokers is more
likely to be below the required amount than non-smokers.
Similarly, the production of healthy eggs in women is less
likely with heavy smokers.
Dependency – a smoker develops a
heavy dependency upon the cigarettes for functioning in their
day-to-day lives. The smoker would gradually depend upon the
cigarette to function normally. Most smokers need a cigarette
after lunch, before they relieve themselves (bowel movements),
when they are in tension, when they wait, when they drink and
so on. The habit seems to grow on them, slowly strangulating
the life out.
Ironically, cigarettes do not come cheap.
So, you are actually paying for a slow and very painful death
when you smoke. Some of these effects are reversible – such as
regaining skin elasticity and color, improved heart
functioning, lower blood pressure, etc.
